Voice Recognition Game
Date: 22nd September 2021 - 10th June 2022
Timeframe: 37 weeks
Team Size: Solo
Roles: Engine
Softwares: Unreal Engine 4
Voice control isn’t present in most of the games we play today as a majority of players don’t suffer with motor skill impairments. For the select few that suffer with this issue, the difficulty of playing games is greatly increased.
I created a voice-controlled game as part of a study to show developers that integrating voice-controlled functions into the games they make would have a positive impact on the community and will show how voice-controlled technology can be used in interactive games for individuals with motor skill impairments.
Voice control requires a microphone to work, words spoken into the microphone by the user will then be converted into text using the Sphinx recognition software. If one of the converted speech recognition words matches up with a set function, then the game will perform an action.
